Survey: Where people used Facebook the most
People are spending more time on their phone or tablet than they do watching TV or sleeping, and some suffer from nomophobia -- "no mobile phone" phobia.
Facebook plays no small part in why people pick up their phones. Facebook usage actually accounts for nearly 20% of all time spent online, according to Business Insider. In its second quarter earnings report, Facebook said it had 1.49 billion active monthly users in June, with 1.31 billion of those people accessing the site through a mobile device.
Daily average users, of which there are 968 million, spend 46 minutes per day on average on Facebook, Instagram and its Messenger app, according to CNBC.
All that time on Facebook means users are constantly scrolling, liking, watching videos and posting updates. In fact, a survey from Stop Procrastination found over half of those with an account use Facebook compulsively and they are willing to post updates from just about anywhere.
"It is no wonder then that some users may feel that their use of Facebook is compulsive," Stop Procrastination Director Tim Rollins said in a release. "It reveals that Facebook is becoming an every more central part of our lives when we feel the need to use it during any social occasion as our survey shows."
How compulsive are users? Forty-five percent of those who took the survey said they made an excuse to leave a social event so that they could use Facebook.
And not only did they post or like from work, they used Facebook from places like the toilet, shower, or at a funeral.
