CM To Release Water From Thotapalli Irrigation Project: Breaking News
Chief
Minister of AP Sri N Chandrababu Naidu will be releasing water from Thotapalli
irrigation project from 10th September onwards. The project that was envisioned
on River Nagavalli in 2003 with a purpose to irrigate an additional 1.2 lakh
acres along with the existing 60,000 acres will now be a reality.
The
original cost of the project was Rs 450 Cr and was stipulated to complete in
five years. The cost had eventually gone up to Rs 800 Cr because of various
external factors such as project delay, resistance from the farmers etc. Initially,
the irrigation officials have completed execution of all major works including
115 km of the 117 km-long main canal and readied it for inauguration in the
last week of July.
The
2-km-long canal was left out as it awaited clearance from railways. The
officials faced problem once again during trial run in the third week of July
when the aqueduct at Lakshmipuram breached. This forced them to rebuild the
same on a war-footing. Since works on link channels at a few places were yet to
be completed, water is likely to be released initially to 80,000 acres in both
the districts. Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, who inspected
the project main canal works near Garugubilli on Saturday, affirmed that water
would be released to 1.80 lakh acres in both the districts by next kharif
season. “Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who laid the foundation stone for
the project would dedicate the project to the nation on September 10, after a
gap of 12 years,” he added.
