JNTU Going To Start Special Course on Cyber Security
HYDERABAD:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has come up with a special
course in cyber security, given the huge interest of students in the emerging
subject.
Cyber
security currently has a huge resource crunch, and the optional `AssociateSecurity' course will be offered from the next semester onwards. Faculty from
various colleges have been trained by top-notch IT professionals, including
experts from TCS and Wipro. The course has already generated huge interest
among students.
"We
will be starting the course in the coming semester. As many as 55 faculty
members from our affiliated colleges have been trained by industry experts for
teaching the courses. We will also be offering courses in associate analytics
in the broader area of cyber security, keeping in line with the emerging
industry demands. Students have shown keen interest in both the courses,"
said JNTU registrar N Yadaiah.
The IT
industry, meanwhile, sees large employment opportunities in the area. "Day
by day, everything is getting digitalized and the need to secure data is also increasing.
But there are very few cyber security experts in the country. In the coming
years, there are going to be lot of opportunities for students trained in cyber
security," said Sundeep Kumar Mak thala, president, Telangana IT A s s o c
i at i o n (TITA).
Current
ly, a similar course is available in IIIT Hyderabad apart from the CR Rao
Advanced Institute of Math ematics Statistics and Computer Science, which
introduced a course in `Practical Cryptology' recently. Cryptology is an
advanced area within cyber security and helps in understanding, modelling,
designing, developing, testing and validating cryptographic software. The
course offered by JNTU, however, will be more basic in nature and will be
taught in 30 colleges.
