Breaking News: Dr. Shakuntala Baliarsingh selected for Kendriya Sahitya Academy Puraskar 2016

Famous writer and translator Dr Shakuntala Baliarsingh for Kendriya Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Kaberi Bhali Jhiyatiye,” the Chief Minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, congratulations are poured in on Baliarsingh for her achievement.

Baliarsingh’s ‘Kaberi Bhali Jhiatia’, Odia translation of ‘Oru Kaberiyai Pola’ (Novel) in Tamil by Tripurasundari Lakshmi was selected by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2015.

Her book is among the selection of 23 books approved by the Board for the prize.

Baliarsingh’s novels, ‘Agyantabasara Itikatha’, ‘Kalankita Jyotsna’, ‘Swayamsiddha’ etc are immensely popular among the Odia readers across the world. She had also received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for her translation work Puni Se Pherini.

At present, the 68-year-old Odia litterateur is busy translating the Hindi novel Pehla Girmitiya by Giriraj Kishore.
