Breaking News: Malayalam poet ONV Kurup passed away

Renowned Malayalam poet-lyricist and Jnanpith Award winner O.N.V. Kurup passed in Thiruvananthapuram on 13 February 2016 following a cardiac arrest. He was 84, was also a recipient of Padma Shri in 1998 and Padma Vibhushan in 2011, from the Government of India. In addition to his valuable contributions to Malayalam literature, he was one of the leading lyricists in Malayalam film, drama, TV serial and music album industry. He was part of many dramas , TV serial and music album industry. ONV was a member of the Kendra Sahitya Akademi from 1982 to 1987. ONV was also the chairman of Kerala Kalamandalam from 1996 to 2001 and from 2006 to 2007. He has penned over 900 songs in over 200 films, besides numerous songs for plays and albums.(1956) was his first film, which was also the first film of famous Malayalam composer G. Devarajan.
