Breaking News: Mastercard to launch payments by selfie

MasterCard has confirmed that it will roll out selfie payments across its products in 15 countries this summer, after a trial in the US and the Netherlands was done last year. 

In the new biometric security system, the users can ditch passwords and PIN numbers, and access apps or make online payments by snapping a shot of their face.Mastercard plans to roll out the technology to the UK, US, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

Customers who want to try selfie authentication will have to download a special MasterCard app that will allow them to take a photo each time they make an online purchase. 

Their face (or fingerprint) will be scanned to prove that they — not hackers or thieves — are making a purchase.
